We love trying different pizza places around RVA, and this is hands down one of the very best in town. We ordered the Carnivore Delight with Calabrian chilis, and it was absolutely delicious! The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese-to-topping ratio was spot on, and the gentle heat from the chilis added just the right amount of flavor. The folks at Mungo were incredibly kind and accommodating, which made the whole experience even better. It’s one of those places that makes you want to come back—not just for the food, but for the people too. We can’t wait to return and try more of their pizzas!

Sometimes all I want is a slice and Pizzeria Mungo has a damn good slice (the crust!). It reminded me of Pipitone's on 100 Dekalb Avenue, a Brooklyn joint I would frequent in the mid-2010s. My experience at Pizzeria Mungo provided a heavy dose of nostalgia. Pop in. Pick a slice (or two or three). Heat it up. Paper plates. And I'm on my way. Get the Rustic Red (pictured with the basil leaves). The restaurant is clean and bright and really meant to be a transient experience, but of course you're welcome to stay a while and order more, like I did.

I was very excited to try this place, I am a huge pizza fan. I’ll start with the good. The pizza is one of the best in the city, great flavor and clearly fresh. Now for the bad, they don’t take orders by phone, and their online order platform doesn’t allow special requests (I like a well done pie). The price is ridiculous, I paid $33 for a large pepperoni pizza, and let me tell you I was so disappointed in the amount of pepperoni on my pizza. It needed at least double the amount on there for $33. Then I ask for some ranch & they told me it’s an up charge since it’s house made, so I pay the extra 1.50. Yall they bring me out the SMALLEST possible container of ranch to go along with my THIRTY THREE DOLLAR PEPPERONI PIZZA. I can’t justify coming back, which sucks because the pizza is good but I have much better options

Delicious!!! The crust was thin and crunchy, everything about the pizza tasted divine. So good!! The cashier/cook was friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely be coming back. The place is small, with just 2 or 3 tables. We went on a weekday afternoon and were able to dine in but just something to keep in mind

This is about as close to real NYC pizza as you’ll find in Richmond—a very good pie. Cooked on Pizza Master ovens and topped with Grande mozzarella, it even has that golden “sheen” you see on legit NYC slices. The crust is long-fermented with a slow rise, giving it the perfect chew and just the right amount of char. One thing worth noting—and not a dig at the shop or their prep—is that they’re a bit heavier on the semolina. It adds a little extra texture to the crust, which is slightly different from a classic NYC slice, but it didn’t take away from the pizza at all. The sauce was excellent, though it has a bit more going on than a classic NYC tomato sauce—slightly more flavor and a touch of heat on the back end. Not a bad thing at all, just different from traditional. Solid cup-and-char pepperoni. The dining area is very small (two four-top tables), so plan on carryout, but there’s plenty of nearby parking if you want to eat right away. I travel to NYC a few times a year for pizza, and I can honestly say this is legit NYC-style. I’ll 100% be back.
